Frequently Asked Questions

  • I am a fully private billing provider, meaning that all consultations are billed directly to patients. Following each session, patients will be provided with an invoice which they can submit to Medicare for potential reimbursement. Please be advised that out-of-pocket expenses may vary depending on Medicare rebate eligibility.

  • To maintain the quality and continuity of care, I do not offer payment plans. This approach ensures that I can dedicate the necessary resources and time for thorough and effective treatment planning, as well as ongoing professional development to provide the highest standard of care.

Patients are encouraged to consider Medicare rebates and the Extended Medicate Safety Net where eligible to help manage their healthcare costs.

  • As a Specialist General Practitioner, I can provide psychological and mental health services without the need for a referral, allowing patients to access Medicare rebates directly through my practice. However, if you already have a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan, you are welcome to bring it along, and we can incorporate it into your care as needed.

  • As a Specialist General Practitioner with further training in psychotherapy, my approach to mental health care integrates medical and psychological perspectives. While psychologists focus primarily on the psychological aspects of mental health, I bring an additional layer of clinical insight that encompasses the broader scope of physical health and medical history. This dual approach allows me to assess not only emotional and behavioural factors but also how underlying medical conditions or medications might influence mental well-being.

My training enables me to provide both therapeutic support and medical guidance, which is especially helpful when mental health concerns intersect with physical health issues, as they often do. In addition, my work often involves collaborating with other healthcare providers to ensure a comprehensive, cohesive plan that addresses all aspects of a patient’s health.

  • Patient confidentiality and secure record management are foundational to my practice. All patient records, including session notes, treatment plans, and medical history, are securely stored in compliance with Australian privacy laws and healthcare regulations. Records are maintained in a secure electronic health record system that is accessible only to authorized personnel, ensuring that your information remains confidential and protected.

In line with best practices, patient records are retained only for the legally required period and are then safely disposed of or archived as necessary. Patients can request access to their records or corrections if needed, in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles. My commitment is to handle all patient information with the utmost respect, ensuring that your privacy is safeguarded at every stage of your care.

  • When providing psychological or mental health services, patient consent is essential; however, there are certain legal and ethical limitations. While I am committed to respecting and maintaining confidentiality, there are circumstances in which I am obligated by law to disclose information without patient consent. These include situations where there is a risk of harm to the patient or others, cases involving child protection concerns, or if required by a court order.

Additionally, mental health assessments may sometimes require collaboration with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care. In such cases, I will seek your explicit consent before sharing any information. It’s also important to recognize that consent must be informed and ongoing; I am available to discuss any questions you may have about the information being shared or the purpose of any assessment or intervention.

My priority is to maintain transparency and empower you to make informed decisions while adhering to legal and ethical obligations that ensure safety and high-quality care for all individuals involved.

  • I am committed to making mental health and medical support accessible and convenient for my patients. I offer both in-person consultations and Telehealth appointments to meet your needs and preferences. In-person visits allow for a more direct interaction, which some patients find beneficial, especially for initial assessments or when hands-on care may be required. Telehealth, on the other hand, provides a flexible option for those who may have difficulty attending in person due to distance, time constraints, or other personal circumstances.

Both options ensure that you receive the same level of care and attention, tailored to your unique needs, while maintaining confidentiality and privacy standards. Whether in person or via Telehealth, I am here to support your health journey.

  • Treatment progress is an essential aspect of effective care, and I am committed to ensuring that each patient’s journey is monitored thoughtfully and collaboratively. Progress is assessed through regular evaluations during our sessions, where we discuss changes in symptoms, emotional well-being, and any shifts in life circumstances. Together, we set clear, achievable goals, and I continuously check in on these to ensure alignment with your evolving needs and experiences.

In addition to these discussions, I may use validated assessment tools to gain objective insights into your progress. These assessments provide a framework for measuring improvements over time and help us adjust treatment strategies as necessary. Your feedback is also invaluable, and I encourage open dialogue about what feels effective and any concerns you may have. My aim is to create a responsive, supportive environment where your treatment goals remain central, ensuring we stay on the right path toward your well-being.
